Clubs, seniors & groups

Out and about together: a club outing, senior circle, coach trip or circle of friends. The tour takes 45 minutes, and the rest of the day belongs to your group.

Clubs

The annual outing with a difference.

Shooting club, choir, fire brigade, hiking group: the annual outing needs a destination where everyone comes along and nobody gets bored. A cave does that because it puts everyone in the same situation. You walk in single file, marvel together, and afterwards there is plenty to talk about.

Groups receive a €1 discount per person on the single price (adults €6.50, children €5.50). The venue confirms from how many people the group price applies. (provisional) About 25 people join each tour; larger clubs are spread over several tours, which then start one after the other.

After the tour there is room for the whole group at the Waldhotel restaurant. You agree the menu or buffet with the venue in advance, as well as how many people are coming.

Seniors

Plan well, honest in advance.

Senior groups are welcome in the cave, and many come gladly. What matters is that you know in advance what to expect. So here are the steps in plain terms:

Senior group on the cave staircase with a handrail
  • The way in leads down 26 steps, and the same way leads back up
  • The passages are in part narrow and low, and the floor can be wet
  • The cave is not step-free, nor is the toilet at the ticket desk
  • It is about 8 °C with high humidity: a warm jacket and non-slip shoes
  • The tour takes about 45 minutes; by arrangement you can plan for breaks (provisional)

Notes

What it means for whom.

If you climb 26 steps comfortably at a normal pace, you will generally manage well. If you are used to handrails and rests, choose a quiet tour and let the guide know in advance. If you use a walker or a wheelchair, unfortunately you cannot visit the cave, and we say so openly.

An alternative for participants who do not want to go down: they wait at the kiosk above or take a walk in the wildlife park, whose circular trail is about 1.8 km long and suitable for pushchairs. That way nobody is excluded, and the group meets again for the meal.

Getting there

Arriving by coach.

For coach trips there is parking at the site, and the venue will tell you the access route on request. The local bus 302 stops at the “Tropfsteinhöhle” stop. The meeting point for the tours is the ticket desk at the kiosk.

If you offer a day trip, you can combine: the tour in the morning, lunch at the Waldhotel, the wildlife park or another destination in the Bergisches Land in the afternoon. Punctuality matters, because tours start on the hour, and latecomers can no longer join. For international groups: by car it is roughly an hour from Cologne/Bonn Airport and about 1 hour 15 minutes from Düsseldorf (approx., depending on traffic).

Private

Private groups welcome, too.

Private groups are welcome as well, for example a circle of friends, a regulars’ table or a hiking group. For milestone birthdays and anniversaries there is a page of its own: Family celebrations. For businesses read Companies & teams, and for classes Schools & nurseries.

Your day

A day for the group.

This is what a club outing can look like: meet at the car park at about 9:45, tour at 10:00, lasting about 45 minutes. Afterwards there is time for a coffee at the kiosk or a walk through the wildlife park. Around 12:00 there is lunch at the Waldhotel, followed by one more stop in the area or the journey home. Such plans also suit coaches with fixed times.

Important for larger groups: name one contact person who speaks to the venue and one person who counts heads. With more than 25 people, tours are started one after the other and the group splits up. Allow a small buffer so that nobody has to wait in the cold. Those who wait are best off in the wildlife park or the restaurant.

For senior groups a quiet pace and a rest after the tour are recommended. The restaurant is only a few steps from the cave, so nobody has to walk far. If you speak to the venue in advance, seating and food can be planned so that the group sits together.
