The cave in winter.

Honesty first: the Wiehler Tropfsteinhöhle (Wiehl Dripstone Cave) has a winter break. It is closed from the end of October or the beginning of November until spring, and the venue confirms the exact dates. There are therefore no regular tours in Advent. Whether special tours are possible for groups is clarified by the venue on request. (provisional)

That does not mean Advent and Christmas are not a topic here. The Waldhotel, the gift vouchers and planning for next year certainly are. And if you would like to see the cave in winter light, ask the venue what is possible on request.

If you are organising a Christmas party, you have two options. The first: the party at the Waldhotel, combined with a special tour if the venue offers one. The second: a visit to the cave in early autumn as a pre-Christmas outing, followed by a meal at the hotel. Both routes combine the special character of the cave with a cosy evening.

When the cave reopens, it is the place for the first outings of spring. If you would like to visit in winter, ask about a special tour by lantern light. Whether and how that works has not been confirmed so far. (provisional)

Right outside the door a winter walk in the wildlife park is worthwhile. The circular trail is open all day and easy to walk in sturdy shoes when there is snow. Admission is free.

Give an experience.

An experience is a Christmas present that does not end up on a shelf: a tour for the grandparents with their grandchildren, an outing for the family, an evening for the couple at the Waldhotel. According to the information so far, vouchers for the tours are available at the ticket desk or by phone, and an online voucher is to follow later. (provisional)

Plan the present as early as autumn.

If you are planning an experience for Christmas, do not start only in December. The cave is closed in winter, so a voucher is a present that can be redeemed when the season starts in spring. That has an advantage: in January and February the recipients have something to look forward to. A voucher in an envelope with a photo of the cave is enough for that.

If you want to give a present to a group, such as your own family, you can combine the tour with a meal at the Waldhotel. For couples a little break in spring is a nice idea: a tour, a walk in the wildlife park and dinner. For children a voucher for a birthday party next year suits, which the parents then no longer have to organise.

Companies can also give vouchers to customers or staff. You agree the quantity and validity with the venue. Please allow a few weeks’ lead time if the vouchers are to be distributed by a certain date. The venue gives details on request. (provisional)

And one more thought for the turn of the year: if you plan to marry or celebrate in the cave in spring, you can ask about dates now. Particularly popular weekends are taken early.
